The Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has remanded the former Queen of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, and Oriyomi Hamzat, a radio presenter, in custody at the Agodi Correctional Facility.
The remand order was given by the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi, following their arraignment on charges related to the tragic stampede that occurred during a Christmas party organized by the former Queen in Ibadan.
Twenty-eight children lost their lives in the stampede, while several others were injured. The police have been investigating the incident and had arrested the former Queen, Oriyomi Hamzat, and several others in connection with the tragedy.
The court has adjourned the case until further notice, pending the outcome of the investigation and advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Oyo State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be served in the matter, and that all those found culpable will be held accountable for their actions.
