The Oyo State Government held a pre-event press conference on Monday to sensitize the public about the forthcoming stakeholders’ consultative forum, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the International Conference Centre, Ibadan.

Chief Abiola Alli, a member of the event’s organizing committee, disclosed that the consultative stakeholders’ forum is part of the state’s efforts to attract international investors, expand its economy, and bridge the gap between local and international traders in continental free trade.

The forum is in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s Oyo State Roadmap for Sustainable Development, 2023-2027. Alli noted that the forum would help address some of the trade policies in the state and also serve as an avenue to boost the internally generated revenue and attract foreign exchange.

According to Alli, the Oyo State Government is among a few states that have keyed into the business opportunities provided by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The AfCFTA would project the state to other countries on the continent for more business partnerships.

He stated further that about thirty-six representatives of African embassies would participate in the forum, while traders, farmers, policymakers, and development partners are also expected.

Alli called on residents of the state to attend the consultative stakeholders’ forum to add value to their businesses. He emphasized that the event would provide a platform for stakeholders to interact and share ideas on how to promote trade and investment in the state.

The organizing committee had earlier held a press conference to sensitize the public about the forthcoming event. During the conference, Alli provided more details about the forum, including the expected outcomes and the benefits for stakeholders.

“We intend to hold a consultative forum, and the whole idea is that if you want to comply with AfCFTA, and want to come up with a strategy, you need to relate with the stakeholders,” Alli explained.

He added that the forum would feature panel discussions, with six panels set to discuss various topics, including the state’s preparedness for the AfCFTA program and the value proposition in Oyo State. Alli noted that the event would be live-streamed, allowing people from around the world to participate virtually.

Other members of the committee include Ms Neo Theodore Tlhaselo, Chairperson/Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on AfFCTA and International Trade; Mr Kunle Olusina, Deputy Chairman; Mr M.A Bolarinwa; Compliance Officer; Mr Falana Bolarinwa, Head of Logistics and Budget; Mr Falomo Saheed, Assistant Secretary, and Mr Olawale Olanrewaju, secretary.

The stakeholders’ forum is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to interact and share ideas on how to promote trade and investment in Oyo State.
