With just two days to go before the planned nationwide protests, the Federal Government has announced the suspension of import duties and taxes on essential food items.

This move aims to make basic necessities more affordable for Nigerians and alleviate the widespread hunger and financial strain on citizens.

According to Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, the government is committed to implementing this measure seamlessly to address the problem of hunger in the nation.

Adeniyi emphasized that the NCS has also streamlined processes to facilitate the export of Nigerian goods to international markets, creating new opportunities for farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs.

The move is part of a comprehensive strategy to mitigate the impact of global inflation on Nigeria’s economy. By removing import duties and taxes on key food items, the government hopes to make them more accessible to ordinary Nigerians. Additionally, the NCS is working tirelessly to prevent the proliferation of arms and dangerous weapons across the country’s borders, ports, and airports.

Adeniyi stressed the importance of collective effort and peace in strengthening the country’s borders, warning that disrupting the supply chain can have far-reaching consequences, including reduced revenue, instability, and distorted trade. He expressed gratitude to those who have embraced peace and dialogue, urging Nigerians to unite in resilience and cooperation during these challenging times.
