Oyo State Government Holds Induction Workshop for Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councillors
The Oyo State government, in collaboration with KloverHarris Innovative Solutions Limited, recently organized an induction workshop for 33 local government chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors in Ibadan.
The workshop aimed to equip the officials with current global best practices for effective service delivery.
Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon Ademola Ojo, emphasized the significance of the workshop in keeping the officers abreast of current global best practices for effective service delivery. He implored them to be agents of change and strive to be the best in the course of discharging their duties, giving room for developmental strides in all sectors.
Hon. Ademola Ojo, expressed his profound appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for his immense support for the enhancement and development of human resources. He noted that Oyo State has witnessed tremendous progress under the able leadership of Governor Makinde, which is a testimony to the sterling qualities of the Governor.
Ojo emphasized that the conduct of local government elections as and when due has brought monumental development to the grassroots. He urged the officials to replicate the same gesture at their respective councils, channeling all available resources towards improving the quality of life of the citizens.
He reminded them that they are men of impeccable character and pedigree, which resulted in their election into the various posts at their respective councils. Ojo stated that much expectation is placed on them and the offices they occupy, and it is imperative to state that the State Government cannot achieve all these alone.
He quoted Winston Churchill, saying, “Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potentials.” Ojo urged the officials to consolidate the gains of the present administration through robust political, socio-economic policies based on time-tested principles.
He affirmed the commitment of the State Government, under the able leadership of Governor Makinde, to the total wellbeing of the entire citizenry, despite the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on Local Government autonomy.
Ojo assured the participants that the training consultant, Klover Harris Limited, was carefully chosen, having excelled in its reputation of providing world-class training for all calibers of public servants. He believed that the training modules will impact on all participants the best practices in line with the contemporary world.
The workshop was attended by all local government area chairmen, their vice chairmen, and councillors from each ward. The training was designed to equip the officials with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver effective services to the people.
Governor Makinde’s representative urged the officials to make the best use of the opportunity, as the training was aimed at enhancing their performance and service delivery.
The induction workshop was part of the State Government’s efforts to build the capacity of local government officials and ensure that they are equipped to meet the challenges of their offices.
The participants were expected to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to improve the quality of life of the citizens in their respective local government areas.
