Makinde Vows Justice for Ibadan Stampede Victims, Reiterates Commitment to Security and Workers’ Welfare
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring justice for victims of last year’s Ibadan stampede, while also emphasizing its commitment to maintaining security and enhancing workers’ welfare across the state.
Speaking at a state function, Governor Makinde reflected on the impact of insecurity, citing his decision to celebrate his birthday quietly in Fashola last year due to safety concerns. “The presence of bandits in proximity to my residence was a sobering reminder of the security challenges we face. Let me assure you that we will not relent in our efforts to eradicate banditry and criminality in Oyo State.”
Governor Makinde commended the efforts of security commanders in maintaining peace and order, stating, “Your tireless efforts have been instrumental in keeping our state safe. A secure environment is essential for meaningful development, and we appreciate your contributions towards achieving this goal.”
The governor also urged traditional rulers and residents to play a vital role in maintaining security by reporting suspicious activities. “As custodians of your domains, we rely on your vigilance and cooperation to prevent criminal activities. Let us work together to ensure a safe and secure Oyo State.”
Governor Makinde reiterated his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, announcing that discussions on the review of remuneration to reflect the new minimum wage and consequential adjustments would be concluded within the week.
In her welcome address, the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, praised Governor Makinde’s worker-friendly policies, describing them as transformative. She encouraged workers to remain diligent in their duties, supporting the administration’s efforts to drive development.
Goodwill messages from key stakeholders, including the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, represented by his deputy, Abiodun Fadeyi; the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Kayode Martins; and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman, Bosun Olabiyi, commended Governor Makinde for his commitment to workers’ welfare, particularly in the areas of promotion and improved working conditions.
Governor Makinde’s twin focus on enhancing security and workers’ welfare underscores his administration’s resolve to build a stable, prosperous, and secure Oyo State for all residents.
