A former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Oyo State, Pastor Benjamin Akanmu, emphasized the importance of unity among Christian organizations, stressing that individualism hinders the progress of Christianity in Nigeria.

Pastor Akanmu, who is also the Regional Superintendent of the Odubanjo Region of Christ Apostolic Church, Nigeria and Overseas, made this assertion while hosting the executive members of the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ), Oyo State Chapter, led by Chairman Lekan Shobowale.

Pastor Akanmu expressed his concerns about the level of disunity among Christian denominations, emphasizing that they should work together in harmony. He urged the CAN leadership and other Christian bodies to adopt a united approach, guided by the principles of fairness, justice, and equity.

The cleric noted that Christian denominations were established to serve complementary purposes, rather than competing with one another. He encouraged Christian leaders to focus on their shared goals and values.

“Individualism is really causing a huge setback in Christiandom, and this is what is slowing down the progress of Christianity in Nigeria. Let’s all unite and fight as one body so as to retain our relevance in the scheme of things, otherwise we will be neglected,” Pastor Akanmu stated.

Earlier, the NACJ, Oyo State Chairman, Mr. Lekan Shobowale, expressed his gratitude for Pastor Akanmu’s guidance and support as the Grand Patron of the association. He acknowledged Pastor Akanmu’s fatherly role and prayed for God’s continued guidance and blessings.

Shobowale solicited Pastor Akanmu’s continued support for NACJ’s planned programs in 2025, promising that the association would remain committed to propagating the gospel through its reporting of Christian activities and events.

In response, Pastor Akanmu assured the NACJ executives of his continued support and guidance, praying for God’s blessings and protection upon the association.
