The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, the winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.
Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and Returning Officer for the election, made the announcement in Benin City on Sunday.
According to Prof. Kuta, Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) finished third with 22,761 votes.
The APC won in 11 Local Governments, while the PDP secured 7. The LP did not win any.
