The University of Ibadan has announced the appointment of Professor Temidayo Olusade Ogundiran as the new Provost of the College of Medicine, effective from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2028. This appointment marks a significant milestone in the institution’s leadership.
Professor Ogundiran’s illustrious career spans various roles in clinical practice, research, and academia. He has made significant contributions to cancer care and research, particularly in breast cancer genetics. His work has led to the development of a breast cancer risk-prediction model for Sub-Saharan Africa.
As a dedicated clinician and researcher, Professor Ogundiran has held several key administrative positions at the University of Ibadan and UCH. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to several academic books and journals.
Professor Ogundiran’s appointment is expected to bring continued excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare delivery. His extensive experience and dedication to advancing medical science and ethics position him as a transformative leader for the institution.
Early Life and Education:
Professor Ogundiran was born on February 23, 1960, in Iseyin, Oyo State. He completed his primary education at Baptist Primary School, Koso, Iseyin, and his secondary education at Iseyin District Grammar School. He furthered his education at Baptist College, Iwo, and later gained admission to the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, in 1982.
Professional and Academic Career:
Professor Ogundiran began his residency training in Surgery at UCH, Ibadan, in 1991, and earned the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in 1996. He further obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh by examination in 1999.
Recognition and Awards:
Throughout his career, Professor Ogundiran has received numerous scholarships, awards, and fellowships, including the Nigerian Academy of Science Gold Medal Prize in Life Sciences and induction as a Foundation Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria.
As the 13th Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Ogundiran succeeds Professor Olayinka O. Omigbodun.
