Despite appeals from the Federal Government and prominent Nigerians, protests against widespread hunger and scarcity of essential commodities are ongoing across the country.
In Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, protesters led by various groups and organizations have taken over strategic locations, including the University of Ibadan, Iwo Road, Mokola Roundabout, Dugbe, and marched through Bodija and Secretariat Road.
Similarly, in Abuja, protesters gathered at MKO Abiola and attempted to march towards Eagle Square but were met with resistance from security agents, who fired tear gas to prevent them from entering the area.
Protests are also ongoing in various other states including Rivers, Lagos, Gombe, Zamfara, and Borno.
Human rights activist, Abiodun Bamgboye who is one of the protesters in Ibadan, while speaking with Journalists said the protest will last for 10 days, emphasizing the struggles of Nigerians to feed and survive.
“Today’s protest is just a dress rehearsal. We will march and sensitize the people on our demands on a daily basis,” he said.
The protesters demand action from the government to address the widespread hunger and scarcity of essential commodities affecting millions of Nigerians.
