“Embrace the Call for Truth and Godliness in Journalism”– Rev’d Ogedengbe Tells Christian Journalists
The Executive Assistant to Oyo State Governor on Administration, Reverend Ìdòwú Ogedengbe has urged Christian journalists to champion godliness and unwavering truthfulness in their reporting.
This call to uphold sincerity and objectivity in journalism was made during the maiden retreat and prayer organized by the National Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ), Oyo Stateat the Government House Chapel, Agodi, Ibadan.
Reverend Ogedengbe while encouraging Christian journalists emphasized the importance of remaining unswayed by worldly temptations, assuring them that God’s faithfulness will sustain both them and their work.
He urged them to treat all information with professionalism, emphasizing that financial gain should never compromise the integrity of their narratives.
Apostle Colonel Joshua Akinyemiju, Rtd., the Oyo State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), also admonished Christian journalists to view themselves as a vital part of the body of Christ and avoid any actions that could bring disgrace to it.
He stressed the need for Christian journalists to use their media platforms to propagate the Gospel of Christ and foster unity among different churches so as to contribute to the growth and development of Christiandom.
The event received further commendation from Pastor Layi Adisa, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, who described the establishment of NACJ’s Oyo State Chapter as a welcome development, asserting that Christian journalists would positively impact news reporting in Nigeria’s current economic climate.
Comrade Lekan Shobowale, Chairman of NACJ, Oyo State, expressed his appreciation for the unwavering support of association members since its inception and encouraged them to remain focused on achieving the association’s goals.
He reaffirmed NACJ’s commitment to upholding the ethics of journalism while providing essential support to the body of Christ.
Distinguished guests included Pastor Muyiwa Bangbose of the Vine Branch Church, Deputy Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Pastor Emmanuel Akanmu, and Deputy Director of Programmes at Radio Nigeria Ibadan Zonal Station, Reverend Niyi Dahunsi.
This gathering of Christian journalists showcased their dedication to promoting godliness and publicizing the activities of churches in Oyo State, reflecting a shared commitment to the values of truth and professionalism in journalism.
