The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has appealed to the Governor of the Central bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele to ensure that the offshore banking is introduced in the free zones.
The chief executive of NEPZA Prof. Adesoji.Adesugba who made the appeal in Abuja said the CBN guidelines for Banking Operations in the free zone will serve as the regulatory document for the conduct of banking activities within the free zones.
He also advised that Nigeria should key into the free zones scheme in order to fast track economic growth and attract more investors to the country.
According to the chief executive of Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA) Senator Tijani Kaura “despite the enormous challenges, the Free zone scheme has recorded significant milestones within the last thirty years”.
The Executive Secretary, Nigeria Economic Zones Association Isaac Elegbede who said the free zones scheme in its thirty years of existence has not been without challenges stressed the need to renew the obsoletes laws in the scheme for efficiency in the sector.
